Task Force on Sustainable Development Goals (TFSDGs)
Background and objectives
During the XXIV INCOSAI, on 10 November 2022, EUROSAI and ARABOSAI signed an Addendum to the cooperation agreement of 2006. Since EUROSAI and ARABOSAI are interested in boosting their cooperation in the field of SDGs audits and on IT audits, this addendum is focused on further cooperation in these fields, the terms of which are decided to be developed and drafted later on by the focal points designated by EUROSAI and ARABOSAI.
As obvious, EUROSAI does not have a structure that will act as the focal point in the field of SDGs auditing as parallel to the ARABOSAI's SDGs Audit Committee, to be commissioned to coordinate with its counterpart in order to jointly outline the draft of the terms of the cooperation. Likewise, ARABOSAI’s, there are also similar structures within the INTOSAI and ASOSAI that specialize on SDGs field. Therefore;
- The need for assignment of a focal point at the EUROSAI side for collaboration with ARABOSAI to execute the Addendum within the scope of individual concept notes (the initial period of validity of which is three years and may be extended at the request of the parties), and
- The limited time-scope, which is the validity of the addendum, along with the very well defined “Task” to be accomplished,
urged the EUROSAI Presidency and the Secretariat to generate the “idea” of establishment of a Task Force on SDGs and to search for an SAI who best fits the role of chairing this EUROSAI’s structure.
Following the discussions on the abovementioned idea, TCA was approached by the EUROSAI Presidency and the Secretariat to communicate the conclusion that the TCA would be a potential candidate for the role of chairing a possible Task Force on SDGs, as it is both an "active member of the Governing Board" and "an active contributor on SDG issues"
The objective of the Task Force is to identify and share good practices of SAI works in the field of SDGs and to develop initiatives, tools and approaches to support the activities of member SAIs as a means of promoting the cumulative experience in the implementation of the SDGs. Due to the reference to the Addendum between EUROSAI and ARABOSAI on especially SDGs field, Task Force will also be organizing activities in partnership with the ARABOSAI SDG Audit Committee to develop further cooperation.
